Senior Pastor Call COmmittee updates  |  2018-2019

June 9, 2019 Announcement

St. Paul's Lutheran Church is pleased to announce that Pastor Glen Thomas has accepted the call the congregation has extended to serve as Senior Pastor, and that Pastor Kevin Thomson has been promoted to Associate Pastor.

Text of Senior Pastor Glen Thomas' letter addressing the congregation:

June 9, 2019

Dear Members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School,

I am humbled to receive the Call you extended to me last Sunday to serve as your Senior Pastor. Ordinarily, when a Call is issued to serve as a Senior Pastor, there are several weeks of deliberation as the Called Pastor seeks additional information about the church issuing the Call and the community in which it is located. Obviously, this time of information seeking is not necessary for me.

I am delighted to inform you that I accept the Call you have extended to me to serve as your Senior Pastor. I make this commitment mindful of the many ways God continues to bless us at St. Paul’s. Among those blessings are an excellent partner in pastoral ministry in Pastor Thomson, an excellent vicar for two more months in Vicar Wade, and our excellent church, school, pre-school, and Early Childhood Center faculty and staff members, all of whom are diligently working in harmony to strengthen the saved and save the lost. It is a joy to serve with them at St. Paul’s.

Above all, my confidence is not in myself, but in our gracious God and His faithfulness. He is always true to His promises and He equips His saints for the mission He gives them.

Finally, I want to thank the members of the Senior Pastor Call Committee, especially their Chairman, Mark Yaeger, for their tireless efforts over the past year.

One of my favorite passages in all of Scripture is Psalm 115:1, which summarizes very well my feelings at this point, “Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.”

Once again, thank you for the honor of serving as your Senior Pastor.

In Christ, our Savior,

  Pastor Glen Thomas

Over the coming weeks and months, the Call Committee will be engaging in the following tasks:

All Congregation Survey: COMPLETED

Senior Pastor Position Description: COMPLETED

Nominations: COMPLETED

  • Phone/Skype Interviews - Reduce the list of candidates to those with whom the Call Committee will conduct phone or skype interviews; COMPLETED
  • Invite to St. Paul’s the top two or three candidates and their families for a series of meetings; COMPLETED
  • The Call Committee continues to meet and review potential candidates. They plan to come to the congregation after Easter with their recommendation. COMPLETED

  • Special Voters' meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. to consider the Call Committee's recommendation. COMPLETED

  • Recommend to the Voters Assembly the candidate(s) it recommends to receive a divine call to serve as the next senior pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School. COMPLETED

The call process will include considerable time, prayer, thought, and discussion. It is realistic to expect that a call will not be issued prior to Easter 2019.
